Young People’s Comic Award Winner 2016!

By now over 100 young readers from far and wide will have attended a special ceremony at the (very fancy) Lord Mayor’s Banquet Hall in Leeds Civic Hall. Our many, many young judges have read, discussed and voted for the 5 nominated titles and have come to Leeds to be the first to hear which of the nominees has won.

Before the winner was announced our judges will have enjoyed talks from YPCA nominees Neill Cameron, Ramsey Hassan, Adam Murphy and Matthew Swan and learned the reasons, methods and secrets of how such comics are made. Then, finally, the golden envelope was opened (we really do have a golden envelope) and the award was presented to…

Lost Tales by Adam Murphy and Lisa Murphy!

YPCA Winner 2016

Huge congratulations to Adam, Lisa and the team at David Fickling Books! Congrats to all of our nominees for making such wonderful books that really impressed our Committee. They are all truly worthy of a place on anyone’s bookshelf.

Thank you to Adam, Matthew, Neill and Ramsey for preparing and giving their inspiring talks. A massive thank you to Debbie Moody and her team at Leeds Library without whom none of this would be possible and Martha Julian and Biserka Stringer-Horne at Thought Bubble for all their invaluable work and assistance. The biggest thanks must go to all of our reading groups, leaders and readers, for taking the time be a part of another year of the Young People’s Comic Award. Until next year, keep reading!

They are an non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting comics and graphic novels as an important cultural art form. Taking place at a variety of venues across the city of Leeds, their aim is to cater to both long-term comic book fans and those who have never picked up a graphic novel before!
